I read something interesting today about Negative Capability. The ability to know that you are not good at something. This sounds counterintuitive to what I have been writing about, about feeling better and turning negative thoughts to positive ones but this concept is a little different. Negative capability is supposed to be a good thing. To recognize how well you really are at something so that you can work on it and improve. If one thinks that they know everything, generally they do not strive to be better.

I have encountered a lot of people who think very highly of themselves. They never change. They remain the same. They do not think they have areas in which they can improve.

Whereas the person who sees their capabilities for what they really are. Know what you’re good at and what you’re not. And if you’re not good at something but want to pursue it, then go for it!

I like to write and want to write but I know that I need improvement. I have to accept the challenges and even if I get a negative response, I have to keep going. I know I will improve with practice.

Try and try again. Always learn no matter the outcome. I read that “sometimes you win and sometimes you learn”. Negative becomes a positive in this situation.

I think that we shouldn’t take this so far as to beat ourselves up about not being good at something but rather use that energy to be a better version of yourself.
